Yes, be warned, it's one writer and one opinion, unless you look right to the skinny yellow column where the Reader decided to throw in a quick Readers' poll list. In the introduction paragraph, it's said, "hey, we have that counterculture Reader legacy to uphold." Who's we? We is one writer plucked from a boiling, bubbling pot.
The Chicago Reader morphed, I'd say several years ago, from a literary AND free paper to another wanna be Chicao Magazine. New City Chicago now stands as a true literary AND free paper, the Reader, no longer.
Unless you want to read what one writer thinks of as the Best Chef Downshift Animal Division. What? It doesn't make sense and I don't think people care.
