Contractions

Since I titled my blog I now have 500 Followers. Just kidding.

Contractions - I'm reading the Tipping Point by Gladwell. Even Gladwell uses contractions. I was told recently not to use contractions in my narrative non fiction by a published non fiction writer. When I talk, I use contractions. I'm 50,000 words into my memoir. That would be a lot of contractions to undo.

A memoir hero, Sedaris, uses contractions. I'm using contractions. What's interesting though is that you don't notice contractions at all when you read; you notice a voice.

Sheila, this is Brian who was out for your network setting from Best Buy. First I want to say that I really enjoyed meeting you and taking care of the problem. As we were both working and talking at the same time I could see how dedicated you are to your work and I believe that you are the same way in your passion for writing. But I do still want to say that you are one amazing person and it was my pleasure to come out and repair the problem that you were having. I liked how you joked around about your warranty of your computer. I wish you all the luck in you future aspirations and hope to me you again. (If you even remember me when you become famous) Thanks again for being so nice to me while I resolved your problem.
